The beaches around El Jadida are perhaps not very clean, but not dirty either. Just north of
the town centre a long beach starts, and it goes on for kilometres. This is a perfect place to get to know young Moroccans, of either sex.
There isn’t too much to see around the town, the old city is bad, and has few inhabitants, but
the Portuguese Cistern is nice. Apart from that, you’ll find yourself stroll around the city, up and down the streets, just like everyone else: See and be seen.
Outside the city, some kilometres away, you can experience a moussem, which is a
religious festival held in commemoration of a holy man inside popular Islam. This one in in July/August. It's fascinating to watch to what extent Muslims mix religion and trade. The whole festival
area is made up of booths, and there are even a couple of discos, put up just for the moussem.
If you want to go for a good swim while you're in El Jadida, you should really consider the bus ride
out to Sidi Bouzid, where there is an excellent beach that is much cleaner than the one in front of El Jadida's town
centre.

El Jadida. Moroccans own tourist resort
<XARTICLE> The main attraction of El Jadida is the summer, when whole families move out to the coast, to get away from the heat of the inland. And there are extremely few Western tourists
around here. The Moroccans spending their summer holidays here, are easygoing, and they’ll get in contact with you with the best intentions in mind. And this will happen everywhere, at the beach,
in cafés, in the streets during the long mingling hours (normally 1 to 2 hours, but here 5 to 6 hours).
