Portuguese abandoned Mazagão and it's inhabitants
were totally evacuated to Brazil, where they founded new settlement Nova Mazagão. The name is also connected with Mazagon, one of Bonbay's oldest neighbourhoods, also having Portuguese
origins.

- 1832: Sultan Moulay Abderrahman rebuilt the city and called El Jadida ( The New)

Under French protectorate, Mazagan became an important bathing tourist destination. It was called: "The Moroccan Deauville"

the city: El Jadida.
- 2004: The Portuguese Fortified City of Mazagan was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site
- 2007: Works of Mazagan Sea Resort are lauched
